The talk will discuss the affordances and impact of emerging technologies on the future of learning. The discussion will focus on several key areas, including video games, virtual and augmented reality, and gamification. The lecture will address the ways emerging technologies are already being used in educational contexts and their potential to transform traditional models of education into problem-solving learning environments connected to the needs of contemporary societies. Ultimately, this presentation aims to provide insights into the ways in which emerging technologies can help us build a more innovative, effective, and equitable education system for the future.
About the speaker
Dr Elisavet Kiourti is a Collaborative Teaching Staff at Open University of Cyprus. She is also an external research collaborator at Centre for Social Innovation and Ministry of Education, Sport and Youth. She holds B.A in Greek Literature with specialization in Linguistics [Aristotle University of Thessaloniki], M. A in Computational Linguistics [Essex University] and Ph.D in Language, Literacy and Education [University of Cyprus]. Prior to her appointment at Open University of Cyprus in 2021 she taught at University of Cyprus, European University Cyprus and University of Nicosia. She has conducted research in various research programmes [e.g, iLearnGreek; BLENDIN; INGAME; PALM; Comixx; DRC; Prison Literacy; KoMolex; Preservation of Maronite Arabic; Language and Identity etc.]. She has published in international journals (e.g. Elsevier ;Research Papers in Education; L1-Educational Studies in Language and Literature; Frontiers in Medicine ) and has contributed book chapters e.g. in Elsevier; Bloomsbury Academic. Her research interests include digital humanities; technology-enhanced learning environments; social media and online identities; videogames; formal and non-formal education; virtual reality; augmented reality; literacy and education. She is also Cyprus Ambassador of the international organization “Women in Games”.
