Dear CIIM students and alumni,
We are happy to announce the upcoming Educational Field Trip to Lisbon (Portugal): 20-24 February 2017.
The theme is ‘Innovation & Value Creation’. We will visit the NOVA Business School and the IVCC, Innovation & Value Creation Center. We will go to a Start-Up incubator in downtown Lisbon. We will visit the Portuguese Innovation Agency. Furthermore, we will visit the ISCTE university, as well as some companies. Cultural activities will include the notable landmarks of Lisbon such as the Belem Tower, the downtown Lisbon, the Jeronimos Monastery, the St George’s Castle, and other. Lisbon has been announced as Best in Travel Destination 2017 by Lonely Planet.
The number of places available is limited and will be assigned on ‘first come, first served’ basis. Hurry up to book your place till 30/11/2016! Are we going to visit only the universities and have lectures there?
Those visits to universities are just a small part of our programme, which will also include visits to companies, business incubator, Innovation Agency, cultural & sightseeing activities, and of course some free time for either museums, or shopping, or nature walks in the beautiful parks (if we are lucky with the weather), or drinking beer/coffee/tea in a nice company (if we are not lucky with the weather).
Which companies are we going to visit?
‘Chapito a mesa’ – a social entrepreneurship initiative, an arts and circus school, which among many activities hosts a famous restaurant ranked as N7 in the world (‘best view’) for the romantic view from its terrace, and the food (at reasonable prices) is truly amazing, read more by clicking here as well as here.
A cork producing company and the Innovation Agency – Portugal is the largest exporter of cork in the world. In the last decade, its share of world exports increased significantly, namely 57.6% in 2001 and 61.3% in 2010. The main product exported is cork stoppers for wine bottles (67%) which are subject to fierce competition with other closures and have lost market share. APCOR (The Portuguese business association for the cork sector) guarantees that “wineries that have used alternative closures are returning to cork because they were not satisfied with their performance,” cited by “i” newspaper on December 29, 2011, adding: “investing in research in this field ultimately dictates regaining the market.” Since the 1990s, Agência de Inovação (the Portuguese official innovation agency) has approved 27 R&D projects with applications in the cork sector. o Footwear company – Portugal is ranked eighth in the world for exports of leather footwear. The average price of USD $27 reflects the degree of appreciation that Portuguese footwear has earned in international markets. What is Innovation Agency?

CIIM current students have an option to claim 3 ECTS for this trip in either elective courses, or core courses such as Career and Industry Seminars for the MSc Management, or International Business for the MBA. At least one educational field trip is highly recommended for all CIIM students.
