The aim of this course is to clarify the legal responsibilities of directors in the fields of finance and to explain the role of finance in business. Furthermore terminology is explained thus allowing one to contribute more effectively to important discussions. Participants are exposed to knowledge and skills allowing one to evaluate and monitor the financial health of a business including identification and monetising risk and spotting early warning signs. Inevitably this course offers understanding of the financial impact of strategic decisions to the director’s organization.

Instructional Objectives
Attending this course will enable delegates to:

•    Identify the financial role and responsibilities of directors
•    Interpret financial statements in accordance with accounting principles and standards
•    Establish the financial health of a business using accepted financial ratios
•    Distinguish between management accounts and the statutory financial reports of a company
•    Differentiate between the various sources of finance available to a company and their relative advantages and disadvantages
•    Interpret the key components of capital investment appraisal

Trainer: David Joel

David Joel, Managing Director of Lanson Consultants, has over 25 years of experience in delivering improvements in business performance and competitive advantage to government and commercial organisations.

David specialises in business performance improvement built upon experience in leading political, cultural and people change programmes for large, complex bids. These include the £3.2 billion outsourcing of the Atomic Weapons Establishment on behalf of Lockheed Martin, British Nuclear Fuels and Serco, and leading multi-disciplinary teams to penetrate the US defence marketplace.

Previously David was the Managing Director of a newly acquired SME, Testech, where he honed his skills in the change and culture issues that characterise a new business acquisition. David’s early experience in the aerospace and defence industry developed his skills, experience and knowledge in the design, development, management and marketing of technically demanding, complex systems and projects.

David is the Chairman of the Executive Board of the Portsmouth and South East Chamber of Commerce that overviews the strategic direction and performance of the Chamber. He is also a member of the Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust. David is qualified in physics, has a diploma in Company Direction and is a full Chartered Director of The Institute of Directors.

Fees and General Information

In order for you to complete your Certificate in Company Direction Programme you will need to take your Examination. Please note that the examination date is the 20th June 2012. The examination will be conducted on-line.

Fees 
The IoD Company Direction Certification Programme fees are €4,600.

No VAT is charged due to CIIM’s VAT exemption status.

The balance of the fees is payable upon enrollment. For cancellations less than 2 weeks prior to the commencement of the course the cancellation fee is €600.
