MBA FAQs

  • Why should I get an MBA?

An MBA will add value to what you do and how you think for the rest of your life and career. An MBA is becoming a requirement for most positions of management and leadership. You will learn new, valuable skills and your earnings will increase significantly. You will be challenged and equipped to realise your full potential, especially if you are careful to choose a world-class MBA programme.

  • How do I choose a world-class MBA programme?

You choose a world-class MBA by asking the following eight questions and receiving a positive answer to all eight:

    - Is the programme internationally accredited by AMBA, EQUIS or AACSB?
    - Is the programme taught by reputable international faculty with a long MBA teaching experience?
    - Does the faculty have diverse international business experience?
    - Is experiential instruction, action learning and live projects an integral part of the programme?
    - Has the programme been in operation for at least 10 years?
    - Does the programme require at least 600 class-contact hours?
    - Is the programme flexible enough to accommodate your special needs and allow you to give it your best?
    - Does the programme provide career development assistance together with an extensive network of successful MBA graduates you can be part of?

  • What is MPSM and for whom is it intended?

The MPSM, or Master in Public Sector Management, is the MBA for the public sector. It is intended for civil servants in management positions or those wishing to be promoted to such positions. It is also relevant to officials in local government (municipalities, etc), in semi-government organisations and in non-profit institutions, as well as to individuals wishing to enter the civil service or other public sector institutions.

  • Can I work and study at the same time?

Of course, this is the idea! The programme is designed for working people. Indeed two-thirds of our students work and study. There are two distinct schedules: the full-time schedule during weekdays and the part-time schedule during evenings and weekends. You are also free to combine the two schedules to fit your circumstances. (Non-EU international students can work on paid internships with the permission of the migration authorities).

  • How flexible are CIIM’s MBA and MPSM programmes?

Very flexible! Possibly the most flexible educational programmes anywhere.
    - You can join the programme any time of the year, and choose your own pace of study (for example, take one course every two weeks, or every four weeks, or even every 6 weeks, and so on).
    - You have flexibility in exam scheduling.
    - You can move freely between full-time and part-time status as your circumstances change.
    - You can freeze your studies for a period (in case of an assignment abroad, or pregnancy, for example) and resume them later. (This does not apply to non-EU students).

  • Can I specialise in my MBA or MPSM studies?

The MBA and MPSM programmes are general management degrees. However, you have the opportunity to select an area of concentration by choosing 20 credits of electives from that area. The MBA offers seven areas of concentration: finance; marketing; human resources management and organizational behaviour; strategy and international business; technology and operations management; shipping management and logistics; and entrepreneurship and management of SMEs. The MPSM offers six areas of concentration: educational leadership and management; environmental and resource management; general public sector management; health care management; local government administration and management; and operations and project management.
