A lecture by Dr Stelios Markoulis
The speaker will cover the forces shaping the main lines of the investment banking industry following the recent global financial crisis.
Stelios holds a BSc degree in Business Studies, an MSc in Shipping, Trade and Finance and a PhD in Finance from Cass Business School and an MSc in Accounting and Finance from the London School of Economics. He has been working for the past 15 years at Cyprus Popular Bank where he is currently the Head of Personal Banking & Investments at the Retail Banking Division. His current duties involve the responsibility for promoting investment products to the bank’s retail clientele in Cyprus and also the in – house development of deposit and other specialised investment products. Prior to that, he worked for 12 years at several positions of the Bank´s Investment Banking Division, including Head of Investment Banking and Senior Corporate Finance Manager. His experience in the investment banking field includes the management of several projects including initial public offerings, debt issues, issuance of bank capital, private equity, company valuations and mergers and acquisitions. Before joining the Cyprus Popular Bank Group, he held a research position at Cass Business School in London where his interests focused in the areas of shipping finance, initial public offerings and the macroeconomic and microeconomic determinants of stock returns. His research work was presented in a number of international forums including the Piraeus Meeting on the World Economy and Ship Finance, the UK Chamber of Shipping and the International Association of Maritime Economists Conference. He has a number of publications in internationally refereed academic journals and books and is the co-author of the book “Risk and Return in Transportation and other US and Global Industries”, published by Kluwer Academic Publishers in 2005. Apart from teaching at the CIIM, he holds an Honorary Visiting Research Fellow position at Cass Business School London.
