The IoD is the longest standing organisation to serve and support business leaders, with over 100 years of service in raising professional standards worldwide. It is a non party-political business organisation founded by Royal Charter in 1903, currently with around 43,000 members world-wide.

IoD Cyprus was established on the 25th October 1972 under the Chairmanship of Mr N.G. Demetriou, a former Minister in the Cyprus Government and Dr G Vassiliou, a former President of the Cyprus Republic was the Honorary Secretary. Since then IoD Cyprus has become an influential voice in Cyprus and has successfully provided opportunities for senior executives from the business community, financial institutions and the public sector to come together in environments that provoke discussions between peers on subjects relevant to their business needs.

The three stages to the IoD's development programme are:
Stage 1: Certificate in Company Direction
This four module programme provides you with the knowledge and expertise that are essential to perform effectively as a director. The programme examines key issues such as leadership and governance, interpretation and applications of financial data and the employment of strategic management tools to enhance business performance. These skills will be delivered in a series of courses covering topics from Strategic Marketing, Leadership and Change and the responsibilities of Directors within the Law. Successful delegates will need to complete all courses at the Certificate level and pass the Certificate examination. Courses at this level can also be taken individually to enhance existing skills or to plug any development needs that exist within your Board.

Stage 2: Diploma in Company Direction
Integrated with and building on the Certificate Programme, the Diploma Programme focuses on broadening and strengthening the director’s understanding of strategic management thinking. The Diploma provides an opportunity to delve deeper into the role of the director and the board and put into practice the knowledge gained from the Certificate in a realistic leadership environment. It encourages peer group support, challenge and stimulation, mirroring in many ways the operation of a board.
The programme entails an intensive three day 'Developing Board Performance' case based learning workshop where you will be challenged to run an organisation and its Board and demonstrate strategic vision to move the business forward. The programme is followed by the Diploma examination.
The module will be taught in a three-day, 21-hour session in Autumn 2012. The module will be held at CIIM, Nicosia.
Stage 3: Chartered Director
Delegates can only move towards gaining their Chartered Director status once the Certificate and Diploma levels of the course have been completed. The coveted Chartered Director status is achieved through an intensive series of assessments of your professional practice and is the definitive qualification for directors today.
To achieve chartered director status you will be required to demonstrate that you are able to integrate cognitive, behavioural and role attributes as a member of a board.
Not only will being a Chartered Director demonstrate that you have a real grasp of the issues affecting your business and the skills to deal with them but it will give you a solid competitive edge.
Chartered Director status is offered directly by IoD.
